Quelques ann\u00e9es plus tard, Mahler avait encore en m\u00e9moire la d\u00e9convenue qu\u2019il avait essuy\u00e9e le lendemain :\u00a0<em>&#8220;\u00c0 Pest, o\u00f9 j\u2019ai dirig\u00e9 pour la premi\u00e8re fois\u00a0<\/em>[la<em>\u00a0<\/em>Premi\u00e8re Symphonie]<em>, mes amis se sont \u00e9cart\u00e9s de moi avec terreur. Pas un seul d\u2019entre eux n\u2019a os\u00e9 me parler de mon \u0153uvre, ni de son ex\u00e9cution, et j\u2019ai err\u00e9 comme un malade ou un condamn\u00e9 \u00e0 mort&#8221;<\/em>.
